| The Belconnen Magpies Open was held on the weekend of !2 & 13 Sept. A record field of 156 from 19 clubs teed up on the Saturday competing for over $5,500 in prizes.
Alan Haughie of Royal Canberra Golf Club is the 2009 Belconnen Magpies Open Champion. In the first round Richard Eves shot an even par 72 with Haughie trailing by two shots. However with the strong winds of the second round resulting in higher scores Haughie with a three over 75 for an overall five over 149 prevailed. Steve Leitch who trailed Eves by 3 shots after the first day finished on 151 for second place with Eves a further shot back. For their efforts Haughies received a trophy and prize of $750 while Leitch won prizes valued at $350.
Junior Open Champion was Kaspar Gancarz of Yowani shooting 159.
In the Nett event Belconnen Junior Jake Priestly had a 66 in the second round for an overall 140 to win on countback from Paul Ontong of Gold Creek.
Grade champions were both from the home course with Tony Brown victorious in B grade and Terry Dummet winning C Grade. Handicap champions were Paul Smith of Royal for A grade, Gold Creek junior Josh Armstrong in Bgrade and Neil Young of Belconnen for C Grade.
The course presentation, running of the event and value and extent of prizes was widely acclaimed by participants. With the level support shown for this years event the Match Committee is committed to building on these successes in future years.
